Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos says he was happy with the result but not the performance as his side laboured to a 1-0 victory over an under-strength Zimbabwe in their 2022 Fifa World Cup qualifier at FNB Stadium on Thursday.
The win means Bafana need just a draw in their final pool game in Ghana on Sunday to advance to the next stage of qualifiers, but had they won by a greater margin it would have put pressure on the Black Stars to score more goals to overtake them at the top of the table.
As it stands, a win by a single goal margin will be enough for the west Africans.
“I’m happy with the result but not with the performance, we didn’t do a very good performance today, the opponent was more aggressive than us,” Broos said.
“They were better on the ball, we were a little bit soft, I don’t know why, lucky for us it was 1-0 and they didn’t score because they had chances also, so I can’t be happy with the performance.
“OK, we’re in a good position, we go to Ghana but we have to know the performance has to be much better on Sunday because we’ll be playing against a much better team also.
“So again, I don’t know what happened with my team, they were not aggressive, I don’t know why but again we won the game and that is the most important.”
