Bad news comes to Juventus and Italy when midfielder Federico Chiesa will be away from the pitch for at least the next 6 months.
Juventus home page confirmed the 1997 midfielder injured the left anterior cruciate ligament in the match against AS Roma and will undergo surgery in the next few days. Chiesa is expected to be out of action for 6-9 months.
Sky Sports Italy confirmed the 2021/22 season has ended for Chiesa. The midfielder is also certain to miss Italy’s two decisive matches against Turkey and Portugal in the play-off round to win tickets to the 2022 World Cup.
This information caused Juventus and Italy’s plans to be seriously disturbed. After the shining Euro 2020 helped the Azzurri win the European Championship, Chiesa is expected to explode with Juventus. Before the injury, Chiesa played quite well for “Old Lady”.
The Italian midfielder scored 4 goals and had 4 assists after 18 matches this season for Juve in the context of the whole team playing under form and falling deep in the championship race.
In Italy, Chiesa played a larger role when carrying the Azzurri’s attack when Ciro Immobile did not perform well and Lorenzo Insigne was in fluctuating form. Without Chiesa, Italy is forecast to face many difficulties in two series of play-off matches against Portugal and Turkey.
At Euro 2020, Chiesa initially played as a substitute as a right forward for Domenico Berardi. However, in the knockout stage, Chiesa shone with important goals against Austria in the 1/8 round and Spain in the semi-finals, making a great contribution to helping Italy to the championship.
Chiesa’s value according to Transfermarkt is £63 million, the highest among Italian players in the world.
