Partey returns to Arsenal training ground
It can be said that this morning, Arsenal played the best match in the last 6 confrontations with Liverpool. Unfortunately, they lacked a bit of luck like Mikel Arteta said to retain at least 1 point.
“[The sharpness] is what makes the difference,” Arteta said after the grim 0-2 result. “I don’t think there is any other difference. I think we’ve narrowed the gap significantly, but it’s still not enough because we couldn’t score and they got two. I’m not happy with the goals conceded, but it’s part of the game and when you have an opportunity you have to take it if you want to get a good result.”
Overall, both had nine shots, with Liverpool slightly ahead in possession (52%). However, without being too dominant, Liverpool still got two goals at the most important moments to knock down Arsenal’s efforts.
The good thing is that Arsenal were not broken after conceding two goals in just 8 minutes. For that resilience, Arteta must thank Thomas Partey, who worked at full capacity in the middle of the pitch and helped Arsenal become a cohesive unit.
Statistics show that, early this morning, Partey was really a monster in the middle of the yard. He had 9/14 winning contests , the most on the field and completely outperformed his colleague Thiago’s number of 6 on the other side of the line.
As usual, Arteta still let Partey play “one pillar”, while Granit Xhaka kicked as high as an 8. With a large space, Partey showed his excellent dribbling skills with 4/4 situations. through someone who was successful against Liverpool. In addition, this midfielder also contributed 3 accurate tackles and 2 rescues for teammates.
Through the Liverpool reagent, Arteta clearly realized that Arsenal can completely play fair, tit-for-tat against a strong opponent. They have a “eternal machine” in high form called Partey as a springboard. The remaining problem of the Gunners, as Arteta said, they need a sharper attack.
Had it not been for last night’s Lacazette too deep, but for example a lucky striker, Arsenal could have been easier to play. And that will be the story that Arsenal have to deal with next summer.
