COEUR D’ALENE, Idaho – The Nevada women’s golf team finished tied for 9th at the Coeur d’Alene Collegiate Invitational.
Hawaii (+20) paced the field and won by just one stroke after rising three spots to secure the tournament during the third and final round. Nevada (+40) finished tied with Long Beach State (+40) for the ninth spot amongst the field of 21.
Victoria Gailey led the way for the Pack with a two-over 72 during the final round of play. Gailey’s round was highlighted by birdies on four, nine, and 17 during her one-over closing 18 holes. She finished tied for fifth on the player leaderboard.
Leah John finished 10 over and tied for 29th after posting a one-over 72 during the final round of play today. Anitra Khoth closed her tournament with an even-par effort and finished with an 11 over to tie for 35th. Kaitlin Fleiner posted a 20 over for the tournament to finish tied for 72nd and Danni Ujimori finished tied for 83rd at +25.
Head Coach Kathleen Takaishi talked about the three rounds. “The golf course was in great shape and is one of the best we play all year. We got off to a slow start the first couple of days but they were able to learn from their mistakes and make a few changes to their game plans.”
Coach Takaishi continued about the success of the team on the third day of the tournament. “Today we played a lot better because the conditions were score-able and we did a better job of managing the golf course and limiting the number of big holes.”
“Victoria (Gailey) played very solid this week and she should continue to get better this fall. Anitra (Khoth) had a great round today and putted really well. This performance should give her some confidence heading into The Molly Collegiate Invitational next week.”
The Pack is back in action on Sept. 27-28 at the Molly Collegiate Invitational hosted by UC Berkeley in Monterey, Calif.
