RENO, Nev. – For the first time in his career, Nevada senior Dillan Shrum has been named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District first team.

This is the second CoSIDA Academic All-District selection for Nevada this season as Wolf Pack football defensive end Sam Hammond also earned the distinction last month. There have been just eight total, including Shrum, to earn the honor from Nevada in program history. Shrum will now advance to voting for CoSIDA Academic All-American honors.

Last year Shrum earned his bachelor’s degree in biology with emphasis in cell and molecular biology and posted a 3.57 GPA. Shrum, the 2021 Mountain West Tony Gwynn Player of the Year, had a career year on the diamond, finishing the regular season as the national leader in both batting average (.479) and slugging percentage (.992). His final slugging percentage of .968 remains the country’s best, and his final batting average of .468 is second, through June 15. His 15 home runs are a single-season career-high and led the Mountain West, as did his .521 on base percentage. Other single-season career totals Shrum hit this year include hits (58), RBI (47) and runs scored (35) and all in a shortened season at just 35 games.

During league play, which spanned just 21 games for Shrum, he batted an incredible .550 with 44 hits, 12 home runs, 10 doubles, 36 RBI and 31 runs in 80 at-bats. He was named the Mountain West Player of the Week following the final week of the regular season after he went 12-for-15 at the plate with six home runs during the series against San José State. Shrum has also gotten it done with the glove as he has recorded just one error on the year and added 260 putouts and 13 assists.

Shrum was instrumental to the Wolf Pack’s success in 2021, as Nevada captured the Mountain West title, going 22-9 in conference play, and made its first NCAA Regional appearance since 2000. The Pack finished the season 25-20 following its trip to the Stanford Regional in June.
