RENO, Nev. – For the first time in his collegiate career, freshman right hander Cam Walty has been named the Mountain West Pitcher of the Week.

This is the fourth weekly conference honor for the Wolf Pack this season, and second in the pitching category. Owen Sharts won the first weekly award for the Pack, followed by Dario Gomez and Tyler Bosetti as conference players of the week.

In his ninth start of the 2021 season yesterday, Walty pitched a gem in helping Nevada complete a three-game series sweep over UNLV. The rookie tossed a season-high 7.0 innings to earn his third win and only surrendered two earned runs on four hits. Walty also struck out a season-high nine batters, which is the most on the team and is tied for fifth-most in the conference in a single game. Additionally he threw three 1, 2, 3 innings and worked out of a bases loaded jam in the seventh to preserve Nevada’s two-run lead late in the game.

In 10 total appearances this season, Walty owns an ERA of 4.80 and has struck out 43 batters, both of which lead the Wolf Pack starting rotation.

Nevada will host Arizona State for a single game this Tuesday, May 11 at 12 p.m. from Don Weir Field at Peccole Park.
